October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Everywhere you look, there’s pink. Cute slogans on cute t-shirts. Awareness galore. Even though the month is almost over, I would like to encourage you to be aware every month, not just in October. Almost 1000 women are diagnosed with a form of breast cancer every day in the United States.
My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer at 42 years old. She is a 16 year survivor. She went through chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery, which have had lasting effects on her health. Still, she was extremely lucky. However, not every woman is so lucky. African-American women are diagnosed less often with breast cancer but die 40% more often than Caucasian women. This disparity must be addressed.
However, research for cures and treatments cannot continue without donations. Valpak is hosting a sweepstakes sponsored by KitchenAid. 25 winners will receive pink appliances in support of Cook for the Cure®. Additionally, there are 500 instant win opportunities in the envelope.
