“You should donate.”
“I hope you’re giving all of those things a good home.”
“You should give your expired coupons to the military.”
I hear these things pretty often. Everyone has an opinion. Just because I’m a couponer, doesn’t mean I buy so much that I have to donate. I do donate. My most recent donation had a value of $75, if you’re curious, and it consisted of formula and bottles. My donations last year were probably $3500. And that was when my husband and I were both on unemployment or living off of what savings we had or doing odd jobs just to get by. We were broke. But it’s not anyone’s business where what I buy goes. If I sit on my behind and do nothing but eat free yakisoba topped with Frank’s Red Hot Sauce, who’s business is it?
It’s not anyone’s. What I buy is my business.
I was taken to task by a commenter who believes that I should donate my expired coupons to the military, where they can be used for an additional 6 months. I don’t do this. I know a lot of people who do, but quite frankly, an extra $15 isn’t in my budget once a month. Could I find that extra $15 if I wanted to? Probably. But it’s not one of the causes I support. Sorry. It’s not my thing. But don’t get me wrong. My daughter is a military dependent. I support the military each and every day. But not with my coupons.
I call out the fraud on Extreme Couponing. Absolutely. Does that make me better than them? Well, kinda. I don’t commit coupon fraud. I don’t really equate that with not sending my coupons to the military. Which doesn’t even make any sense. But if that’s how you want to spin it, in an attempt to shame me? You’re on the wrong blog. For real.
This blog is, by and large, a volunteer effort. I spend at least 20 hours every week working on posts, match-ups, and my own clipping. I receive compensation from ads, affiliate links, and some referrals. This compensation probably works out to a lot less than $1 per hour. Would you do your job for that? Probably not. So don’t complain about a FREE service.
If you don’t like it, you can hit the red x, you can come pick up my coupons, or you can leave me a comment here.
And if you do want to criticize, let me know when you’re going to start your own blog.I’d love to come visit.
