We were approaching a critical level of rice in my bucket, so off to Joe V’s I went today.

I bought:
20 lb bag of rice – $6.58 or $.33/lb
3.16 lbs of bananas – $1.05
Milk – $2.78
Strawberries – $1.87
Fresh jalapeno peppers – $.13
Penne pasta – 2 2lb packages – $1.80 or $.45/lb
White Onion – $.29
Holmes Sausage – $2.97
Bulk Bolillos – $1 (actually I only had six but got charged for 8 – $.25 stupid tax for my inattention)
And a few other assorteds. I was really close to the budget I had set, which was only $20.

I was also scouting prices for coupons that are coming out soon, and for my mental price book.

We’re supposed to get a $.75/1 McCormick spice or herb coupon on Sunday, and these become an excellent buy. You can click to enlarge the picture, but ground cinnamon is in the first picture, parsley flakes in the second and paprika in the third.

4 lbs of organic pinto beans @.99 each (On sale for $1.99, used $1/1 coupon found in Whole Deal Flyer)
2 lbs of organic black beans @.99 each (On sale for $1.99, used $1/1 coupon found in Whole Deal Flyer)
2 packages of Nasoya wonton wrappers @.62 each (On sale for $2.49, used $1.25/1 coupon found in Whole Deal Flyer AND $1.25/2 manufacturer coupon)
Savings: $9.75 or 58%

Sellers Bros:
10 lbs of russet potatoes = $1.77
1.5 lbs of black plums @.99/lb = $1.50
Baby bok choy @.99/lb = $.53
Lipton tea bags @2.28 – $.50/1 coupon (doubled) = $1.28
Parade Sugar = $2.18
10 limes @.10
3 lbs of rice @.77 (x2) – This was definitely a stock up price. We go through rice 3 cups at a time, which means I need more rice, especially at that price. 🙂
Total: $9.80

I go through a lot of tea – usually 3 quarts per day. That’s a box of tea bags every 8 days or less. Each pitcher of tea costs me about $.40. Not as cheap as water, but I hate water (I know, I know).

I didn’t knock out all of my list, but I didn’t have it in me to go to too many stores today. We’re well under budget for the month. I’ve got the makings for another batch of pot stickers, which I’ll freeze, and lots of beans for the stockpile. The baby bok choy were just too cute to pass up. I’ve never cooked with them in my life, but part of eating healthy on a budget is doing what you can with what’s cheap.

Milk – $2.19 (On sale for $3.19, which is still the cheapest price in town, and received $1 ECB)
Crest Pro-Health Toothpaste – $1.50 profit x 2 (I had a raincheck from last year, and used the $1.50 off from the 5/1 PG)
Pampers Cruisers – $14.99 after raincheck and manufacturer coupon
Total out of pocket: $8.05 +7 ECB, and I have $4.00 ECB for next week. The regular price of the diapers alone is $23.99!!!
